Locum Telehealth Psychiatrists – Work From Anywhere, Whenever It Suits you!

Picture this: A patient in remote Australia sets off for their first appointment with a Psychiatrist. They've been on the waiting list for the best part of a year, it's an 1800km round trip to fly and receive the healthcare they need. When they arrive, the doctor is running late, their regional flight was delayed whilst travel and border issues were resolved. Surely there's a better alternative?

Wouldn't it be easier, as a Psychiatrist, if you could wake up, make a coffee and then videocall this patient from the comforts of your home? After the call, drop the kids off at school or go for a morning swim, knowing your next appointment is scheduled for when you are free. No commute, no 9-5 commitments, but still providing the same essential services to those desperately in need.

One rare positive arising from the pandemic is the transition to telehealth solutions to the doctor shortage in rural areas. Remote health services have struggled to provide specialist care – particularly in light of border closures, travel concerns and hesitancy to consult face-to-face.

Psychiatrists offering services over videoconference can help lift the burden on these health services, and provide the necessary care in a structured and safe manner. You too can play a key role as health services adapt to a new way of providing specialist care – please read on to learn more.

The Position

This completely flexible position is for Fellow Psychiatrists trained in any Psychiatric Sub-Specialty. Ideal for those looking to pick up as little as one hour per month around their current commitments, or transition their own practice into a fully remote model.

★ You'll receive 100% Medicare billings from a remote telehealth item number – meaning DWS restricted doctors can claim and still work in Metropolitan areas

★ You will have access to comprehensive administrative support – including appointment scheduling, dictation write-up, Medicare paperwork, IT set-up and troubleshooting

★ This is a totally flexible working arrangement – offer to work only the hours/days you are free, including weekends and after-hours

★ Work from home, your clinic or anywhere that has a reliable internet connection (a hotel in Bali?!)

★ Huge demand for your services – capacity to work full-time retaining patients for long term care, or seeing new patients on an individual basis

★ Support from GPs or Nurse Practitioners physically with the patients if required

★ Opportunities for CAMHS, Older Persons and Forensic Specialists in addition to General Adult consultations

★ Payment is cleared into your account the day after your appointments
