Why Prescript? We Have The Best Quality Standards

Paperwork is an inescapable fact of life with medical recruitment. Every time Prescript helps a regional hospital, clinic, practice or department find their next locum or permanent doctor an avalanche of credentialing and checks needs to be completed.

Each client we work with has different requirements - it varies from public hospitals to private clinics; from State to State and from region to region. Take NSW Health for example - there is meant to be one set of paperwork required for all locum doctors, yet each district health area varies slightly (or widely!) from each other in what they request.

Managing all of this and ensuring Prescript doctors start on time takes a lot of organisation. We are incredibly fortunate that the highest standards with credentialing are in-bedded in our everyday activities, led by Stef McLaughlin (Prescript’s Credentialing, Quality and Giving Manager).

“Paperwork, credentialing and travel logistics can sometimes be such a headache! My role is to ease the pain and guide all our doctors through the process. Hopefully the hospitals, clinics and doctors I work with feel they are well supported by me and the Prescript team.”

Stef has designed our internal processes and procedures to meet the different needs of each of our clients and also to be compliant with our external JAS-ANZ-accredited auditors, Certex. Prescript is certified by Certex regularly to ensure we reach the specific standards for NSW Health.

Underpinning everything are the Prescript Quality Standards (PQS). This is our internal checklist to make sure that every doctor we place in a new position has met a consistent level of checks. Why do we have PQS? It is precisely because all our clients have their own different, yet overlapping credentialing that we thought it essential that we could rely on our own foundation of standards.

A lot of PQS goes on behind the scenes, but we want the doctors that choose to work with Prescript and our clients to have peace of mind that we take quality and standards seriously.

What are Prescript Quality Standards (PQS)?

All Prescript doctors will have been through our PQS checklist before starting in a locum or permanent position:

✔️ PQS Prescript Interview Report - with one of our medical recruitment partners

✔️ PQS Registered with Prescript as a candidate

✔️ PQS Answered disclosure questions

✔️ PQS Medical Board Registration checked

✔️ PQS Shared a copy of driving licence and passport

✔️ PQS Provided proof of qualifications - Primary Degree and Fellowship

✔️ PQS CV updated for recent work history

✔️ PQS Right to work checked (citizenship and visas)

✔️ PQS Google keyword search

✔️ PQS Three reference reports (two as a minimum)

And There’s More.

➕ In addition to external audits, we have a cycle of internal audits for PQS.

➕ The credentialing, management and recruitment teams review internal processes on a tri-annual basis.

➕ We are a Corporate member of the Recruitment and Consulting Services Association (RCSA) that complies with the RCSA Code for Professional Conduct, which means we will provide a legally compliant, ethical and professional service.

➕ Prescript are members of the Association of Medical Recruiters of Australia and New Zealand (AMRANZ).

Happy Birthday, Prescript!

Prescript is 4.png

Prescript is four years old!

It’s good to have the opportunity to pause and reflect sometimes. Birthdays and anniversaries are often traditional times to take stock and look back. Late March marked four years since Prescript opened its doors as medical recruitment specialists.

We’re known for solving the regional doctor shortage in Australia, leaving doctors loving what they do and regional communities feeling like they have the best doctors in town.

A lot has changed over the last four years, here are four of the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

1) Team is everything.

Every day the team at Prescript is focused on what we do best - helping regional areas find doctors, filling rosters and providing peace of mind.

We’ve now grown to eight (plus Bonnie of course!).

We all care about the work that we do and the impact it has on the regional doctor shortage. These regions are also our communities - our HQ might be in Sydney, but we are spread far and wide along the coast from Bega Valley up to the border of coastal NSW/QLD.

To stay connected as a team, we get together three times a year to celebrate and acknowledge hard work. We also reflect on how we can provide a better level of service to the doctors, hospitals and practices we partner with.

Below are some recent Prescript photos - our planning retreat to Watson’s Bay; attending the 2019 Australian Small Business Champions Awards; a celebratory boat trip on the harbour and lastly, our HQ office in Darlinghurst.

2) Always think of the impact on patient care

Every day we’re focused on two clear outcomes - Helping hospitals find doctors that create departments and clinics that run better, have more capacity and less stress. And placing Doctors in jobs that leave them feeling highly valued, rewarded and, most importantly, enjoying what they do.

On occasion, it can be easy to disconnect the recruitment services we provide from patient care. We try and overcome this be visiting as many of the hospitals and clinics as we can - it is only by walking around emergency departments, touring practices, seeing radiology clinics and meeting with medical administration that we realise how crucial recruitment is to their smooth running.

Since 2015 we have visited every State and Territory - been on the tilting train from Bundaberg to Rockhampton; taken a shuttle bus to Noosa; driven to Bunbury and Busselton; bumped around in a 4x4 in the Northern Territory - just some of the adventures to meet Prescript doctors and Prescript clients.

Sometimes a vacancy can make front page news for the right reasons - Prescript worked on a global recruitment project to find a Neurologist for a regional city. We used our 7-Step Recruitment Framework for a successful outcome and not only did the local paper splash the good news on its front page we also received an acknowledgement from the State Health Minister. It gives the whole Prescript team a feeling of accomplishment to know that a community now has access to the healthcare it deserves.

Below are some photos from recent trips - Bundaberg, Fremantle, Hervey Bay, Launceston and Canberra.

3) Recruitment doesn’t have to be boring

We are always trying innovative ways to attract doctors to regional areas. Traditional advertising still works, but if you want to persuade doctors to make a sea or tree change then something different is needed to cut through.

Grace Clueit leads our marketing at Prescript and along with some fantastic external suppliers has created some memorable campaigns on behalf of our clients.

Here is one example of a recruitment video for the Fraser Coast. Doesn’t it make you want to live there?

4) Importance of being a business for good

Logo.png

At Prescript, we want to make sure our values flow through everything we do. That’s the reason why we decided to set an annual giving goal through our partnership with the Global Giving Business initiative, B1G1.

In 2018, our target was to pay for the salary for a doctor in rural Kenyan village (and we did it - read more here on our blog). Our target for 2019 is to provide 10,000 check-ups for Indian children living in slums (you can follow our progress here).

We love linking our everyday business activities to our giving goal. We share this with Prescript doctors and Prescript clients, so everyone knows that together we are making a great difference in the world by doing what we do every day.

Shikshan Gram in the video below is a shelter for homeless children and is one of the charities delivering the medical check-ups towards our 10,000 goal.

Happy Birthday, Prescript! Looking forward to the year ahead.

Who at Prescript was on 'The Young Doctors'?

And the answer is…

Hugo Scales - Prescript’s Finance and Payments Manager!

Hugo Blog.png
I’m Hugo, Finance and Payments Manager at Prescript Recruitment. I make sure doctors are paid correctly and promptly. I’m always happy to answer your questions and talk you though all the different payment methods available. Read my blog to find out how I ended up in medical recruitment, and my ‘interesting’ connection to the medical world..

My Story

I joined the wonderful Prescript Recruitment in September of 2017. Working several days a week, I was immediately made to feel part of the team, and an important part of it at that! Such a warm welcome!

It is a surprise to some that I have landed in medical recruitment, although on the finance-management side. For someone who left school and studied theatre arts for four years, then pursued a career as an actor for over a decade, there is little synergy or vertical integration in this, or any, career path.

Despite this, my colleagues believe, with some considerable mirth but genuine excitement, that my latter connection to the medical world was heavily influenced by my first professional gig as an actor in the 1970s and early 80s Oz soap opera “The Young Doctors”. My clarification that I was only in the show for six months and played a misbehaving hospital orderly, although the brother of a Dr in the cast, has done little to dampen this amusing theory.

If early influences were to dictate my future the more likely scenario would have seen me end up as a hotelier or restauranteur, as I worked many more bars and eateries than appeared on stage or screen, though not exclusively so.

The reality is that I did free myself of the catering world, living and working in the United States of Hollyweird for 10-years. I had initially moved there to take part in a Shakespeare Festival in Northern California but transitioned to behind the scenes work in the film industry in Los Angeles and as a freelance Production Coordinator.

The transition into administration, and away from the uncertainty of marketing one's persona as a hireable commodity, should start to make more sense.

I returned to Sydney and continued with some TV coordinating, but the landscape in Australia remains a very different proposition to an ‘industry’ town like LA. Still, I focused on working within some proximity of creativity and spent some years in finance and administration for an award-winning sourdough bakery, then a busy concert hall, and did casual bookkeeping for some small businesses.

So here I am, always keen to be part of a team of enthusiastic, collaborative professionals which is where I have once again happily found myself.
