Traralgon, located in the eastern part of the Latrobe Valley, stands as the most populous city within the City of Latrobe. This charming city has evolved into a hub of culinary excellence, boasting a variety of excellent eateries, top-notch coffee shops, and lovely accommodation options. Beyond its urban offerings, Traralgon's proximity to historical gems like Walhalla, a gold-mining community founded in 1862, and the scenic Tarra-Bulga National Park make it an excellent base for exploration. Visitors can savour leisurely walks along its broad, tree-lined streets, revel in beautiful gardens, and unwind in expansive parklands. With its thriving dining scene and vibrant nightlife, Traralgon serves as the entertainment capital of the Gippsland region.

Sale, a delightful small town nestled between Traralgon and Bairnsdale, is a quintessential country town with a population of approximately 15,500. At its heart lies the serene Lake Guthridge and the Botanic Gardens, where you can encounter incredible roaming peacocks. The town's historical significance is marked by the presence of the Swing Bridge, constructed in 1883 and recognised as Victoria's inaugural movable bridge. Sale's serene charm and picturesque surroundings make it a perfect destination for those seeking a peaceful and scenic escape.

Bairnsdale, situated in the eastern reaches of Gippsland, serves as an ideal launching point for exploring the captivating Gippsland Lakes, the meandering Mitchell River, and the enchanting forests that envelop the region. Visitors can delve into the rich history and culture of the area by visiting the Krowathunkooloong Keeping Place, which showcases artefacts and narratives related to the Gunaikurnai people of East Gippsland. For those with an appreciation for architectural beauty, the stunning St. Mary's church, an exemplary Romanesque structure dating back to the 19th century, beckons with its exquisite interior and murals by Italian artist Francesco Floreani. Bairnsdale also offers convenient access to Raymond Island, located just 40 minutes away, where you can explore the Koala Trail and witness these endearing creatures in their natural habitat.

About Jason Ahmad

I’m Jason Ahmad – Senior Radiology Recruitment Partner at Prescript. I have worked in a number of health-related fields; however, medical recruitment has been the most enjoyable. I have more than 20 years of experience in areas such as Pathology, Medical Indemnity and GP Recruitment. This broad knowledge base allows me to understand the challenges faced by those in our field and therefore find solutions that often create enduring positive outcomes.

I am driven professionally by being able to create positive and meaningful health outcomes in rural and regional communities. It is immensely satisfying helping practices and hospitals find the right doctor for their permanent and locum positions, and I pride myself on finding optimal outcomes that balance doctor needs with practice requirements. Every time I make a placement, we are one step closer to solving the regional doctor shortage.

I see many opportunities for growth in the medical industry. I am particularly interested in seeing the barriers faced by International Medical Graduates lowered to facilitate their registration with the Australian Medical Board. As a cohort, they offer a very real solution to the enduring rural workforce shortage. I feel as a country, we have the resources and technology to do this without compromising patient safety.

Outside of work, I’m personally driven to encourage and support my two sons whose development are my greatest aspiration. Aside from a two-year stay in Melbourne, I have lived my entire life in Adelaide. I enjoy being outdoors when I can, and love a game of pool, and watching the cricket or football; especially at a live match. I have three cats and a dog who are sources of endless comfort and, at times, amusement.
