Locum DMS – Make A Difference Within Rural & Remote Health In Outback NSW

An outback city in every sense, Broken Hill is a living, breathing time capsule set amid a sprawling desert landscape. A place of red rocky earth, huge skies, and a fascinating and internationally significant history. It is, after all, Australia's first heritage-listed city.

It is located near the border with South Australia on the crossing of the Barrier Highway and the Silver City Highway in the Barrier Range. The closest major city is Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, which is more than 500km to the southwest.

The Position

Far West NSW is looking for a Director of Medical Service to join their team. Part of their vision is based on high importance to rural and remote health, providing high-quality clinical services and working with their communities to enable people to be as healthy as possible.

You will be responsible for developing and sustaining effective liaison and consultation with medical providers across the district and for providing strategic planning, leadership, and direction for speciality services on a district basis.

You’ll provide the Chief Executive with expert advice on medical workforce matters, medico-legal issues, and the relevant clinical policy, award, and statutory requirements.

As a critical leader in the FWLHD, the Director of Medical Services provides significant input to the development and oversight of strategic and business plans, policy development, business, and medical service strategies, and relationship management

You will complete a one-month handover with the current Director of Medical Services, an experienced FRACMA.

About Mel Houston

Hi, I'm Melissa Houston; I am one of the Senior Recruitment Partners at Prescript Recruitment, working with rural generalists and emergency medicine doctors across metro and regional Australia.

My experience covers over a decade of medical recruitment, specialising in senior doctors and solving the healthcare shortage.

I am an expert in working closely with hospitals, departments, and clinics to fill their critical vacancies. My success has included roster management, executive search projects and in-depth relationship building with locum doctors.

I love to work hard whilst injecting humour and fun into my day-to-day activities. I really enjoy meeting clients and doctors; as it stands, I think I've ticked off 100 hospitals that I have visited, and that is probably only touching the surface. I believe it's integral to matching doctors’ and clients’ needs and helps me better understand doctors' new roles.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter and family. I'm a water baby at heart, so you'll often find me out on our family boat - sailing the beautiful waters of the Mornington Peninsula (where I live!).
