Exciting Rural Generalist Locum in Idyllic WA Coastal Towns for 2023/24

Are you dreaming of a unique locum experience in two of Western Australia's most sought-after holiday destinations, Carnarvon and Exmouth? Picture waking up in your comfortable self-contained accommodation, surrounded by the charm of these coastal havens.

Kickstart your day with a leisurely stroll and a coffee in the laid-back atmosphere of these towns.

After your shift, immerse yourself in nature – take a refreshing dip or savour a delightful dinner at a waterfront restaurant. Exmouth and Carnarvon hospitals boast prime coastal locations, offering a perfect blend of work and leisure.

In your downtime, the possibilities are endless. Explore breathtaking beaches and swim alongside magnificent aquatic creatures such as whale sharks, manta rays, and humpback whales. Dive into the wonders of Ningaloo Marine Park and marvel at the majestic landscapes of Cape Range National Park.

Exmouth, crowned WA's best town in 2021, is a picturesque coastal gem bursting with activities, adventure, and unparalleled natural beauty. As the gateway to Ningaloo Reef, Exmouth offers a front-row seat to witness whale sharks, particularly between March and August – making it the ideal time for your locum adventure.

Carnarvon, a thriving coastal town surrounded by banana plantations, invites you to experience incredible surfing, witness ocean surges through underwater caves in nearby blowholes, and explore its rich indigenous heritage at an award-winning interactive exhibition. With Exmouth and Ningaloo Reef to the north and the renowned Shark Bay World Heritage Area to the south, Carnarvon is a central hub for unforgettable experiences.

The Position

Your workdays will be spent in hospital settings, providing essential ED and GP support to welcoming communities while earning a competitive day rate.

You will be expected to work independently; however, there is a supportive team during the 24-hour period comprised of Rural Generalists, GP Anaesthetists and GP Obstetricians.

Shifts are generally 8-10 hours in duration, with a mix of shift start times, including nights.

About Mel Houston

Hi, I'm Melissa Houston; I am one of the Senior Recruitment Partners at Prescript Recruitment, working with rural generalists and emergency medicine doctors across metro and regional Australia.

My experience covers over a decade of medical recruitment, specialising in senior doctors and solving the healthcare shortage.

I am an expert in working closely with hospitals, departments, and clinics to fill their critical vacancies. My success has included roster management, executive search projects and in-depth relationship building with locum doctors.

I love to work hard whilst injecting humour and fun into my day-to-day activities. I really enjoy meeting clients and doctors; as it stands, I think I've ticked off 100 hospitals that I have visited, and that is probably only touching the surface. I believe it's integral to matching doctors’ and clients’ needs and helps me better understand doctors' new roles.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter and family. I'm a water baby at heart, so you'll often find me out on our family boat - sailing the beautiful waters of the Mornington Peninsula (where I live!).

At Prescript we’re known for helping solve the regional doctor shortage in Australia.

Every day we’re focused on two clear outcomes - Helping hospitals find doctors that create departments and clinics that run better, have more capacity and less stress. And placing Doctors in jobs that leave them feeling highly valued, rewarded and, most importantly, enjoying what they do.

We believe that when we get these two crucial things right, it has a huge impact on the regional doctor shortage and the healthcare of communities across Australia.
