What Would You Do With A Wellness Day-Off?

Last Wednesday, the whole Prescript team had the day-off, labelled as a ‘Wellness Day’. The rules were that you could not check your emails, answer work calls, and you had to plan something positive to do.

Why did we have a wellness day? It was in recognition of the hard work that every member of Prescript has put in over the last six months. It was a day to say ‘thank-you’, recharge the batteries and focus on fun. Last week it felt the right time to press the reset button.

I know that the doctors, hospitals, and practices we partner with have benefited from having Prescript operate at full capacity – the team have been there to manage cancelled locum shifts, change travel logistics, juggle border closures and answer questions.  Our recruitment and credentialing teams have worked diligently to support our Prescript doctors and clients – they have focused on ‘the now’ with practical help, and they have focused on ‘the later’ with optimism that better times lie ahead.

In return, we have experienced loyalty, understanding and good humour – thank you.

I am based in Adelaide, connecting via zoom with the team (the new normal!). My colleagues live across three states, all working from home, and we have not been together in one place since December 2019. We stay connected in daily catch-ups and with Friday night virtual wines, but it’s hard to know how everyone is doing. When you are in an office, you can see when someone is down, upset or not themselves. It is much more challenging when you can’t see the person in the flesh. A bonus day is Prescript’s way of connecting us and emphasising the need to manage stress.

So how did the Wellness Day go? Did it give us an extra boost? The answer is yes! We did yoga, had a long lunch, went for coastal walks, reorganised wardrobes, had a massage, got up early and had a lie-in. We did whatever we wanted to do – bonus day-off, bonus time for ourselves.

Whatever the rest of 2020 holds and whatever surprises 2021 has in store, Prescript is going to be there. Stopping to look after ourselves occasionally, helps with our resilience, meaning we can look after you more effectively.

What would you do with a bonus wellness day?
