Clinical Trial Medical Officer – Part-Time Permanent Opportunity – Sydney, NSW

Are you a conscientious and ambitious GP looking for a stimulating non-clinical role to supplement your current practice?

Prescript has partnered with a well-established Clinical Research facility on Sydney’s Northern Beaches to find principal or sub-investigators to assist with breakthrough studies to help better the world.

This is a perfect opportunity for GPs with a special interest in research, or previous clinical trials experience, to establish themselves in the field – whilst maintaining their primary care commitments on a part-time basis.

This organisation has undergone multiple recruitment drives since first working with Prescript and this has been an increasingly popular option for specialists looking to broaden their skillsets. Please register your interest in this role as quickly as possible to be considered, it will not stay vacant for long!

The Position

There is scope for one or two part-time investigators to commence immediately at this state-of-the-art clinical research facility.

For doctors without previous clinical trials experience, you will be engaged as a Sub-Investigator (SI) – working within a small team of SIs and nurses under the guidance of a Principal Investigator (PI). For experienced researchers or those with previous SI or PI experience, there is one opportunity (part or full-time) to step into a leadership position at this facility.

Your primary responsibility as an SI is to ensure the well-being, safety and interest of all participants taking part in the various clinical trials ran at the research centre. Through clinical care, obtaining informed consent and physical examinations - you’ll maintain clinical oversight of medical care, procedures and decisions regarding studies.

You will bring your primary care experience, impeccable commitment to patient safety and the ability to implement and review stringent study protocols. This is primarily a participant/patient-facing position, but collaboration and accurate reporting to sponsor organisations is required – strong administration skills are essential.

If you’re looking to further your career in clinical research and have an interest in progressing into a PI role, whilst living in a perfectly situated and beautiful area of Sydney’s Northern Beaches, then this could be the role for you.

For PIs, in addition to the above, you will be responsible for the implementation and design of ongoing and new trials, training of SIs, delegation of responsibilities, participant retention, overseeing safety, deviation of protocols and adverse reactions – and be expected to provide final reports to partner organisations. Further information on the responsibilities of a PI can be provided on request.

.Time Commitment:

Whilst GPs can opt to apply for these roles on a full-time basis, the ideal doctor will maintain at least a minimum level of clinical commitments outside of their investigator work. The minimum requirement for this position is approximately two full-time days per week, Monday- Friday, although there is flexibility to provide this time commitment over multiple half days (mornings/afternoons) or potentially corresponding with week-on-week off schedules.

Ultimately, this position is for GPs with a long-term desire to further a career in research, no matter what stage of their own career they are in. Applicants for the Sub-Investigator position(s) are expected to progress towards working as a Principal Investigator once prepared and comfortable with the role.
