Urgent Rural Generalist Locum - Doomadgee QLD - $2700 per day - Indigenous Health

We are working with the Mount Isa region to help them find a rural generalist for their last-minute vacancies at Doomadgee from 24-31 July 2023.

Make a difference to a small town in the Gulf of Carpentaria northwest of QLD.

Doomadgee is known for its rich Aboriginal culture and traditions. The local Indigenous communities have a strong connection to the land and have maintained their cultural practices, including traditional arts, music, and dance. The area surrounding Doomadgee offers unique natural attractions, such as rivers, wetlands, and the beautiful Gulf of Carpentaria coastline.

If these dates don’t suit you, we also have ongoing dates at this site and others in this region. Please enquire with your availability, and we will assess the roster for suitability.

The Position

The Doomadgee Primary Health Care Centre is a solo-doctor position; however, there is very experienced nursing staff that you will be working with each day.

This facility is designed to cater to the primary healthcare needs of the local population. The centre offers various medical services, including general consultations, emergency care, maternal and child health services, chronic disease management, and preventive care.

The hospital aims to provide culturally appropriate healthcare services that respect and incorporate the cultural beliefs and practices of the local Indigenous communities.

As there can be limited flights into this location, preference is that you fly in and out of Mt Isa; this way, the connecting flights are easier (paid travel days).

About Mel Houston

Hi, I'm Melissa Houston; I am one of the Senior Recruitment Partners at Prescript Recruitment, working with rural generalists and emergency medicine doctors across metro and regional Australia.

My experience covers over a decade of medical recruitment, specialising in senior doctors and solving the healthcare shortage.

I am an expert in working closely with hospitals, departments, and clinics to fill their critical vacancies. My success has included roster management, executive search projects and in-depth relationship building with locum doctors.

I love to work hard whilst injecting humour and fun into my day-to-day activities. I really enjoy meeting clients and doctors; as it stands, I think I've ticked off 100 hospitals that I have visited, and that is probably only touching the surface. I believe it's integral to matching doctors’ and clients’ needs and helps me better understand doctors' new roles.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter and family. I'm a water baby at heart, so you'll often find me out on our family boat - sailing the beautiful waters of the Mornington Peninsula (where I live!).
