Hospitals - Meet your Recruitment Partner for O&G and Medicine Consultants

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES (76).png

Hello!

For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Marcia Beere – Recruitment Partner for O&G and Medicine Consultants at Prescript Recruitment. I work with regional hospitals across Australia to help solve the doctor shortage.

I thought I would share some information about myself so that you can learn a little bit more about my background and my interest in medical recruitment.

With having 10-years of experience in medical admin (and currently living in Brogo, just north of Bega, NSW), it’s safe to say I can relate to many of the difficulties you’re facing within the regional doctor shortage.

“The biggest issue that we are helping to solve is the doctor shortage in regional areas. It’s a consistent problem across the whole of Australia, excluding Sydney and Melbourne, and it is why we exist as an agency. Living in a regional area myself, I have seen the impact of the doctor shortage.”
rudi-strydom-3768-unsplash.jpg

Born in NZ, I moved to Australia in the early 2000's and quickly established myself into a medical administration role. I enjoyed the problem-solving side of it and found being part of the doctor’s career pathway from a Junior, through Registrar to Consultant-level very rewarding.

Being able to help regional hospitals stay fully-staffed was my primary motivation to join Prescript Recruitment earlier this year. I get to work from my home office with the full support and back-up from the team in our Sydney HQ.

If you need my support for your locum, fixed-term and ongoing positions, I’d love to hear from you.

Feedback from Radiologists - What Makes A Locum Great?

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES (77).png

At Prescript, we work with radiologists who locum for a significant proportion of their year, and others who regularly take up a one, two, or a fair few weeks of locum work each year, fitted in around their regular work.

They understand what makes a “great locum” and we’re sharing some of their tips, pointers and feedback here.

For any radiologist in Australia or NZ who is considering a locum or for those who have perhaps tried the odd locum but haven’t found it as satisfactory as they would wish, we hope these will answer some questions and help you take the first steps of inquiring with Prescript to find out how a locum can be tailored to meet your needs and wishes.

Top 5 Tips from Radiologists

  1. Ensure you establish a good relationship with your Recruitment Partner where you have easy communication, clarity and a dedication to really helping with your locums – This includes good quality credentialing, attention to detail on travel and clinical arrangements, and aftercare with financials – i.e. ensuring you’re paid promptly.

  2. Leave yourself plenty of time, where possible, to discuss your requirements/availability, get the suitable locum/s booked in and any required paperwork completed with as much leeway as possible. (Once you’re registered with Prescript it makes the booking of future locums very quick and easy too.)

  3. Be specific about your dates and location preferences – Many opportunities are not sent out, and generally, a locum can be tailored by your Recruitment Partner to suit you.

  4. If you’re open to new ideas regarding locations, or if you don’t yet have specific dates but want to book a locum(s), still call and discuss – it’s never too early. Your Recruitment Partner will be able to make suggestions and give clinical and location insights that will help you decide better what appeals most.

  5. Tack on a holiday/family weekend – Taking the family along can be a fantastic part of a locum. Make sure your Recruitment Partner knows which family members are coming, how old the children are if any, and any other requirements. It’s an opportunity to see Australia and travel to areas that are of interest, or simply visiting a great place to take some time before or after the locum to relax and enjoy. Do be specific about your interests or if you’d just like to explore, let your Recruitment Partner know, and they will give you options and ideas so that you can decide the best for you and your family. (i.e. – Coastal, tropical, remote, cold climate for skiing/hiking, access to the Great Barrier Reef, urban/metro…)

What did they think?

Here is some feedback some of Prescript’s regular locum radiologists have given recently:

“You always make it so easy and straightforward to get into the locum, work, and leave – It’s a real comfort to know all flights, car hire, accommodation and passwords for reporting are set up correctly every time.”

“I’m having a great time – The staff were so happy to see me back, it made me feel very much at home.”

“Everything flowed smoothly, and it was an easy hop over from New Zealand for the fortnight.”

“Thank you very much and to Stef and Hugo too – The locum was very well organised from start to finish. Hugo has been great at getting my invoices paid promptly too.”

Any other tips/advice for radiologists who are interested in setting up a locum? We’d love to hear from you.

Prescript - Our Giving Update I September 2018

tyler-nix-525389-unsplash.jpg

Hello!

It’s that time again – welcome to September’s giving update!

Here at Prescript Recruitment, we embed giving in what we do to create a habit of giving. Every time we help a doctor with the next step in their career in regional Australia we also contribute towards medical coverage in rural Kenya.

Our BIG goal is to pay a doctor's salary for an entire year, plus assist with food, clean water and power at a health centre in Odede - Western Kenya.

I am excited to tell you that we have reached 306 days of a doctor’s salary paid for. That means, as of today, we are just 59 days away from 12 months of a doctor’s salary paid for. And for that, I say, ‘thank you’!

Did you also know that through working with our hospitals, clinics and doctors in Australia, the following impacts have been created for the Odede community?

  • Given 127 nourishing meals to children with HIV

  • Provided 125 days of hospital maintenance

  • Given 23 days of access to life-saving clean water for patients

Odede is located in a rural Western Kenya, where most people live in extreme poverty. Doctors help provide life-saving medical care every day for the village and the surrounding community.

All this has been made possible by our membership of the Global Business Giving initiative B1G1. It means your choice to work with Prescript ensures something great happens in the world and saves lives as well.

image 3.jpg

Thank you so much for being part of the Prescript community. We’re privileged to work with you. Your ongoing commitment and support is truly appreciated, and I look forward to giving you our next update!

Kiwi Radiologists - Meet Nicola Speer

Prescript9388 crop square .jpg

Nicola Speer is a medical recruitment specialist (and a Kiwi!) focusing on helping Radiologists find locum and permanent positions.  Here Nicola answers some questions to help Kiwi Radiologists thinking of working in an Australian locum position.

Where in NZ are you from?

I’m from the Nelson region, right at the top of the South Island. It’s a location known for its sunny climate, beautiful beaches and good agriculture including its vineyards and great wines being produced.

When did you move to Australia and why?

I moved from the UK back to NZ briefly and then to Sydney to live. I’ve been here over 15 years now and love the lifestyle here – as well as the ease of being able to get back to New Zealand frequently to see family and friends. My initial reason for coming here was for work, then it quickly became home for me

What’s your favourite place in Australia?

It’s hard to say since there is so much to love about Australia – I live in Bondi Beach so that has to be my number 1 – I feel grateful everyday for being able to get out to the beach early in the mornings, winter and summer, and enjoy the village-like community here. Outside Sydney, Melbourne is my favourite for a weekend away, the culture, food and ease of moving around in the city make it a great place to spend some time. I’m keen to explore regional Victoria more too. Adelaide and Hobart are also favourite weekends away. In the middle of our already mild winter, it is nice to get away to Queensland for some sunshine, swimming in the ocean and exploring – Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation are beautiful.

How can you help NZ based Radiologists?

One of my favourite aspects of helping NZ radiologists into locums over here in Australia, is the connection I have with New Zealanders and a bit of understanding in terms of the questions that they would like to have answered, how best to set things up for locum work that is going to be a truly enjoyable experience for the doctor, and their family if they’re coming too – which is a great option, to take a trip that mixes work, with some family time in a great Australian location.

What are the most common types of questions NZ Radiologists have about working in Australia?

Sometimes NZ radiologists ask what is required for registration and paperwork and are generally quite relieved at how much Prescript can do to make it a smooth and simple process.

I think there’s often an initial feeling of not knowing what the options are, where to start, how much they can earn and the practicalities of the process. I love to tailor locums for NZ radiologists that cater to their time capacity and availability and also the personal preferences for locations. If I talk to a doctor who isn’t sure, then I like to go over a few ideas to see which places sound the most appealing to each individual.

How much can a Radiologist earn for a locum position?

It can vary on location and length of commitment, but generally it is a daily rate of $3000 to $4000 per day (+GST).

Prescript - Darlinghurst27204 crop long .jpg
Are there other benefits?

Plenty! It’s a pretty stress-free experience with flights, well selected accommodation, a car and some other personal touches provided that show appreciation to radiologists and ensure a smooth process.

Can a family come too?

Yes, absolutely and this is something that I like to discuss with radiologists in our initial chats to ensure I understand and can think about good ideas to suit the preferences of the whole family: ages of children, what activities they like and interests the family have, any factors that require special planning and basics like the type of accommodation that will make the stay during their locum most comfortable.

What is the best way for a doctor to contact you?

There are three ways to get in touch:

  1. Call me on 0405 429 799

  2. Email nicola@prescript.com.au

  3. Click ‘Book A Call with Nicola' ⬇️(with option to upload your CV)

The best way is to send me a brief overview of any existing ideas about coming to Australia for locums. If the radiologist just wants to find out what the options are and knows nothing about where to start – that’s perfect too! I’ll be able to reply and schedule in a phone call to suit us both so that we can have a chat about options, answer questions and look at how best to proceed from there.

New Zealand radiologists are perfectly placed to come over to Australia and work. We partner with really appreciative and accommodating radiology practices, hospitals and imaging services and look after our Kiwi doctors coming in to work, whether it’s for a week, a fortnight, a few weeks dotted through the year or even a block of months, get in touch and we can have that first conversation.
