Lifestyle Features

Melburnians' reputed obsession with good food and coffee appears to be true - that's said as a compliment and with great admiration.  For anyone who loves to wine, dine and explore the best in cafe culture, a visit to Melbourne is sure to leave you very well satisfied and planning your next trip back.

As well as the culinary appeal, there are wonderful arts and cultural activities; cutting-edge shows, sporting events, world-famous shopping, hidden laneways and vibrant markets, plus the simple pleasure of walking around a very pretty city taking in the old and new architecture and absorbing some of the history in the layers of this city - Australia's second most populous. There's so much to see and enjoy in Melbourne.

Melbourne is a very easily navigable city. Perfect for walking around the compact grid which makes up the city centre. The quintessential Melbourne Trams are free to hop on and off within the main city grid borders which makes it simple and fast to traverse the trips you may wish to take on your exploration. It's also a perfect (almost flat) city centre to walk around - this is the very best way to discover the hidden laneways, one of Melbourne's most engaging features.

To take trams or buses or trains outside the CBD city circle grid, simply pick up a Myki card, and you're off.

Melbourne bridge and water.jpg

FURTHER AFIELD

There is the chance to explore the city and perhaps further afield too. There are stunning wineries in areas including the Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula and the chance to stop in some lovely country towns to enjoy a tranquil lunch and take in some Australian country history - perhaps take a drive to the Dandenong or Macedon Ranges.

There are incredible coastlines to explore close to Melbourne too. If you want to add a few memorable days on to a trip to Victoria, you can include the Great Ocean Road, an Australian National Heritage listed stretch of road, of approximately 240km that runs along the south-eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities of Torquay and Allansford.

We have written our own location reports to share with you which are full of great things to do and see. Call or email Rebecca Doyle (Prescript’s Senior Recruitment Partner for Radiology) to find out more:

Medicare Provider Number Applications - Changes to the Process

Stef Medicare blog.png

Did You Know…?

There’s a new form for provider number applications. Medicare has recently updated their manual application form and will no longer be accepting the older versions.

What’s Different?

The layout has changed, and there are several more questions about the location than there was before. This means that more information is needed up front, and the risk of the application being rejected is higher. The good news is that the document is fillable online; however, printing is still required as a handwritten signature is mandatory.

The Answer? PRODA!

In view of the changes, and with all the headaches caused by ensuring provider numbers are ready in time, you should register with PRODA now, more than ever before.

The online system is linked with the Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) and allows you to apply and retrieve provider numbers instantly! And what a relief it is when the number is issued in plenty of time before a locum or permanent placement.

What Is PRODA?

Provider Digital Access (PRODA) is an online authentication system providers use to securely access government online services. Using a two-step verification process, you only need a username and password and access to a personal mobile phone or email account.

To access services using PRODA, you need to register as an individual to get your own account.

What Do You Need To Do?

Follow this step by step guide to obtain additional location provider numbers instantly:

1. First, you will need to register with PRODA

  • To register, click on this link here.

  • A web page will open with a detailed process of your next steps:

  • Create your login details and personal details

  • Verify your identity. You will need three pieces of identification (Passport, Driver’s Licence and Medicare card are easiest to verify, but other ID is accepted)

  • Match your existing services to your profile

2. Secondly, apply instantly for additional location provider numbers

  • Once you have registered, you will then be able to apply online for instant provider numbers.

  • You will be given the required location address and banking details in advance.

Need help applying? I am happy to talk through the process over the phone. Give me a call, or you can call the HPOS team directly on 132 150.

Hospitals - Meet your Recruitment Partner for O&G and Medicine Consultants

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES (76).png

Hello!

For those of you that don’t know me, I’m Marcia Beere – Recruitment Partner for O&G and Medicine Consultants at Prescript Recruitment. I work with regional hospitals across Australia to help solve the doctor shortage.

I thought I would share some information about myself so that you can learn a little bit more about my background and my interest in medical recruitment.

With having 10-years of experience in medical admin (and currently living in Brogo, just north of Bega, NSW), it’s safe to say I can relate to many of the difficulties you’re facing within the regional doctor shortage.

“The biggest issue that we are helping to solve is the doctor shortage in regional areas. It’s a consistent problem across the whole of Australia, excluding Sydney and Melbourne, and it is why we exist as an agency. Living in a regional area myself, I have seen the impact of the doctor shortage.”
rudi-strydom-3768-unsplash.jpg

Born in NZ, I moved to Australia in the early 2000's and quickly established myself into a medical administration role. I enjoyed the problem-solving side of it and found being part of the doctor’s career pathway from a Junior, through Registrar to Consultant-level very rewarding.

Being able to help regional hospitals stay fully-staffed was my primary motivation to join Prescript Recruitment earlier this year. I get to work from my home office with the full support and back-up from the team in our Sydney HQ.

If you need my support for your locum, fixed-term and ongoing positions, I’d love to hear from you.

Feedback from Radiologists - What Makes A Locum Great?

LINKEDIN FRIENDLY IMAGES (77).png

At Prescript, we work with radiologists who locum for a significant proportion of their year, and others who regularly take up a one, two, or a fair few weeks of locum work each year, fitted in around their regular work.

They understand what makes a “great locum” and we’re sharing some of their tips, pointers and feedback here.

For any radiologist in Australia or NZ who is considering a locum or for those who have perhaps tried the odd locum but haven’t found it as satisfactory as they would wish, we hope these will answer some questions and help you take the first steps of inquiring with Prescript to find out how a locum can be tailored to meet your needs and wishes.

Top 5 Tips from Radiologists

  1. Ensure you establish a good relationship with your Recruitment Partner where you have easy communication, clarity and a dedication to really helping with your locums – This includes good quality credentialing, attention to detail on travel and clinical arrangements, and aftercare with financials – i.e. ensuring you’re paid promptly.

  2. Leave yourself plenty of time, where possible, to discuss your requirements/availability, get the suitable locum/s booked in and any required paperwork completed with as much leeway as possible. (Once you’re registered with Prescript it makes the booking of future locums very quick and easy too.)

  3. Be specific about your dates and location preferences – Many opportunities are not sent out, and generally, a locum can be tailored by your Recruitment Partner to suit you.

  4. If you’re open to new ideas regarding locations, or if you don’t yet have specific dates but want to book a locum(s), still call and discuss – it’s never too early. Your Recruitment Partner will be able to make suggestions and give clinical and location insights that will help you decide better what appeals most.

  5. Tack on a holiday/family weekend – Taking the family along can be a fantastic part of a locum. Make sure your Recruitment Partner knows which family members are coming, how old the children are if any, and any other requirements. It’s an opportunity to see Australia and travel to areas that are of interest, or simply visiting a great place to take some time before or after the locum to relax and enjoy. Do be specific about your interests or if you’d just like to explore, let your Recruitment Partner know, and they will give you options and ideas so that you can decide the best for you and your family. (i.e. – Coastal, tropical, remote, cold climate for skiing/hiking, access to the Great Barrier Reef, urban/metro…)

What did they think?

Here is some feedback some of Prescript’s regular locum radiologists have given recently:

“You always make it so easy and straightforward to get into the locum, work, and leave – It’s a real comfort to know all flights, car hire, accommodation and passwords for reporting are set up correctly every time.”

“I’m having a great time – The staff were so happy to see me back, it made me feel very much at home.”

“Everything flowed smoothly, and it was an easy hop over from New Zealand for the fortnight.”

“Thank you very much and to Stef and Hugo too – The locum was very well organised from start to finish. Hugo has been great at getting my invoices paid promptly too.”

Any other tips/advice for radiologists who are interested in setting up a locum? We’d love to hear from you.
