Launceston General Hospital (LGH), Northern Tasmania’s major referral and teaching hospital, is seeking a senior medical leader to join its executive team as Deputy Executive Director of Medical Services (Deputy EDMS). With over 450 beds and a wide-reaching regional footprint, LGH plays a vital role in the health of communities across Tasmania’s North and North-West.
This is a permanent leadership position ideal for a doctor with a strong grounding in clinical governance, medical administration, and a passion for driving change from the inside. You'll work alongside an engaged executive team, enjoy access to research and academic affiliations, and be supported to grow your leadership career while delivering meaningful results for the system and community.
The Position
As Deputy EDMS, you'll play a critical role in shaping the medical workforce and ensuring high clinical standards across the region. You will:
Support the Executive Director of Medical Services in delivering strategic and operational leadership across LGH
Oversee medical workforce planning, junior doctor recruitment, and credentialing
Partner with GP and community care services to enhance integrated care
Lead quality improvement, risk management, and medical governance initiatives
Represent the medical workforce in executive and system-wide forums
Act as a delegate for the EDMS, stepping into decision-making roles as required
This is a full-time, fixed-term contract (up to 76 hours per fortnight) with on-call responsibilities, offered over two years with flexibility on the start date.

Base salary: $216,300 – $310,389 per annum + superannuation
Private practice arrangement: 35% allowance or scheme participation
Vehicle: Fully maintained or $28,389 annual vehicle allowance
Relocation assistance: Up to $10,000 (interstate) or $15,000 (overseas)

What We Require From You
General or specialist registration with AHPRA
Fellowship (or near completion) with a relevant college such as RACMA or FRACMA (or equivalent experience in medical administration)
Strong background in clinical leadership or executive management within a health service
Outstanding interpersonal, organisational, and systems-thinking capability
A commitment to leading sustainable change, mentoring others, and building a high-performing culture
