GP Locum Opportunity on Spectacular Kangaroo Island in 2023

We consistently receive excellent feedback from our locums who have ventured to the idyllic isle of Kangaroo Island.

With the recent uptake of GP registrars, locum blocks on Kangaroo Island have been rare in 2023 and don’t last long. However, there is now the opportunity for Rural Generalists to assist with a critical gap in August-September, with the likelihood of more dates from November onwards covering annual leave for exams.

With 509km of coastline, pristine beaches, native bushland, wildlife and local wines to enjoy on your days off, there are very few locum opportunities like this - if you are able to assist at all this year, please get in touch as soon as possible to secure your block!

The Position

Working in a modern 7-room private GP practice, you will be providing vital services to the community with a supportive practice team, including local 2 GPs, 3 registrars, 3 nurses and 2 medical students – covering all aspects of General Practice.

In addition to the GP clinic, you will provide shared on-call services at the local district around twice a week (or more if desired).

This is an excellent health service to work in whilst exploring one of Australia’s bucket list holiday destinations.

Kangaroo Island, a natural wonder nestled off the southern coast of Australia, is a breathtaking paradise of diverse landscapes and abundant wildlife. Known for its pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, and lush forests, this captivating island offers a unique sanctuary for both nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.

Explore the iconic Remarkable Rocks, granite boulders sculpted by wind and waves over millions of years, offering panoramic views of the Southern Ocean. Immerse yourself in the vibrant wildlife at Seal Bay, where sea lions frolic along the sandy shores, and encounter kangaroos, wallabies, and koalas roaming freely in their natural habitat. With its untamed beauty and rich biodiversity, Kangaroo Island promises an unforgettable journey through a world of unspoiled wonder.

Clinical Trial Medical Officer – Part-Time Permanent Opportunity – Sydney, NSW

Are you a conscientious and ambitious GP looking for a stimulating non-clinical role to supplement your current practice?

Prescript has partnered with a well-established Clinical Research facility on Sydney’s Northern Beaches to find principal or sub-investigators to assist with breakthrough studies to help better the world.

This is a perfect opportunity for GPs with a special interest in research, or previous clinical trials experience, to establish themselves in the field – whilst maintaining their primary care commitments on a part-time basis.

This organisation has undergone multiple recruitment drives since first working with Prescript and this has been an increasingly popular option for specialists looking to broaden their skillsets. Please register your interest in this role as quickly as possible to be considered, it will not stay vacant for long!

The Position

There is scope for one or two part-time investigators to commence immediately at this state-of-the-art clinical research facility.

For doctors without previous clinical trials experience, you will be engaged as a Sub-Investigator (SI) – working within a small team of SIs and nurses under the guidance of a Principal Investigator (PI). For experienced researchers or those with previous SI or PI experience, there is one opportunity (part or full-time) to step into a leadership position at this facility.

Your primary responsibility as an SI is to ensure the well-being, safety and interest of all participants taking part in the various clinical trials ran at the research centre. Through clinical care, obtaining informed consent and physical examinations - you’ll maintain clinical oversight of medical care, procedures and decisions regarding studies.

You will bring your primary care experience, impeccable commitment to patient safety and the ability to implement and review stringent study protocols. This is primarily a participant/patient-facing position, but collaboration and accurate reporting to sponsor organisations is required – strong administration skills are essential.

If you’re looking to further your career in clinical research and have an interest in progressing into a PI role, whilst living in a perfectly situated and beautiful area of Sydney’s Northern Beaches, then this could be the role for you.

For PIs, in addition to the above, you will be responsible for the implementation and design of ongoing and new trials, training of SIs, delegation of responsibilities, participant retention, overseeing safety, deviation of protocols and adverse reactions – and be expected to provide final reports to partner organisations. Further information on the responsibilities of a PI can be provided on request.

.Time Commitment:

Whilst GPs can opt to apply for these roles on a full-time basis, the ideal doctor will maintain at least a minimum level of clinical commitments outside of their investigator work. The minimum requirement for this position is approximately two full-time days per week, Monday- Friday, although there is flexibility to provide this time commitment over multiple half days (mornings/afternoons) or potentially corresponding with week-on-week off schedules.

Ultimately, this position is for GPs with a long-term desire to further a career in research, no matter what stage of their own career they are in. Applicants for the Sub-Investigator position(s) are expected to progress towards working as a Principal Investigator once prepared and comfortable with the role.

Locum Rural Generalists – North-West Tasmania – Up to $2800pd

With the implementation of the single employer pilot training model, Tasmania is becoming an attractive option again for Rural Generalists and GPs with a remote primary care interest.

For thrill-seekers and nature lovers, an exciting opportunity has presented itself in Smithton, North-West of Devonport and the gateway to the Tarkine Wilderness.

With increased rates of $2800 per day for an urgent block, and more opportunities throughout the year, now is the time to make inroads in this community-focussed practice whilst providing on-call services for the small local district hospital.

Smithton is a charming town that combines natural beauty, historical significance, and a close-knit community. During your downtime, whether you're interested in exploring the wilderness, enjoying coastal activities, or immersing yourself in the local culture, Smithton offers a memorable experience for your next locum opportunity.

The Position

Working alongside at least one other GP, you will be providing primary care coverage to their 4000 residents whilst participating in a shared on-call roster for the small 12-bed district hospital.

The competitive daily rate is independent of the work you are doing, meaning even standard clinic days in the practice are paid at a set daily rate up to $2800pd. Smithton is an industrial town attractive to adventure tourists (even in winter), so you will see a variety of patients during your locum blocks.

Importantly, short-term locum opportunities are available here, with 5-7 day locums being the norm. A perfect break in practice if you have never experienced working in a small Tasmanian town.

About Smithton

Smithton is a picturesque town located in the northwest region of Tasmania, Australia. Situated on the banks of the Duck River, Smithton serves as the administrative centre of the Circular Head municipality. Known for its natural beauty and friendly community, Smithton offers visitors a charming rural experience.

One of the notable attractions in Smithton is the Tarkine Wilderness, which encompasses a vast area of temperate rainforest and coastal heathlands. The Tarkine region is home to unique flora and fauna, including ancient myrtle trees, wombats, platypus, and a variety of bird species. Visitors can explore this pristine wilderness by embarking on scenic walks, camping, or taking guided tours.

Another highlight of Smithton is its proximity to the rugged coastline of Tasmania's northwest. Sandy Cape and Green Point are popular destinations for beach lovers and offer stunning views of the Bass Strait. Visitors can indulge in activities such as swimming, surfing, fishing, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll along the sandy shores.

For history enthusiasts, the Circular Head Heritage Centre in Smithton provides insights into the area's past. The centre exhibits artefacts and documents that depict the region's rich Aboriginal heritage and European settlement history. It is an ideal place to learn about the local culture and traditions.
