Rural Generalists - Experience Beautiful Norfolk Island - Locum Positions Available

Rarely do GP Locum positions become available in settings characterised as authentic "Island Paradises." For Rural Generalists, an exceptionally distinct opportunity presents itself in this isolated and breathtaking vacation spot. Serene Norfolk Island offers a range of attractions, catering to various interests, but it particularly captivates those with a fervour for the splendours of the natural realm. Whether it's engaging in underwater encounters with indigenous sharks, ascending Mount Pitt, embarking on treks through subtropical woodlands within the national park, or simply indulging in the vistas from atop the cliffs, a sense of disappointment is virtually non-existent during your leisure days.

The Position

Working with a team of 4 other GPs, your role will encompass delivering primary care and immediate services to Norfolk Island's close-knit local populace and the transient tourist influx.

The responsibilities for on-call duties are shared, granting you the opportunity to explore your surroundings on 5 evenings out of 7 and 3 out of 4 weekends. Your professional engagemnts will be divided between the recently renovated district hospital and a versatile multipurpose center, where adept nursing, community, mental health, and allied health teams will provide support.

Feedback from locum doctors who've returned underscores the favorable working atmosphere. Should you desire, we can arrange a conversation with one of our returning locums to gain firsthand insights about Norfolk Island.

The Location

Norfolk Island is a small island paradise in the South Pacific Ocean. Famous for its seafood, picturesque beaches, and friendly community, a trip to Norfolk Island will definitely be one to remember.

Discover Norfolk Island’s rich culture, waterfalls, cliffs and trendy cafes & restaurants, not to mention impeccably crystal-clear waters, which are sheltered by teeming coral reefs just a short swim from the sand. Be sure to take a trip to the remarkable Emily Bay – which has been named one of the top 10 beaches in Australia.

Wifi and mobile coverage is limited on the island, allowing you to switch off and enjoy the tranquillity on your days off.

About Mel Houston

Hi, I'm Melissa Houston; I am one of the Senior Recruitment Partners at Prescript Recruitment, working with rural generalists and emergency medicine doctors across metro and regional Australia.

My experience covers over a decade of medical recruitment, specialising in senior doctors and solving the healthcare shortage.

I am an expert in working closely with hospitals, departments, and clinics to fill their critical vacancies. My success has included roster management, executive search projects and in-depth relationship building with locum doctors.

I love to work hard whilst injecting humour and fun into my day-to-day activities. I really enjoy meeting clients and doctors; as it stands, I think I've ticked off 100 hospitals that I have visited, and that is probably only touching the surface. I believe it's integral to matching doctors’ and clients’ needs and helps me better understand doctors' new roles.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my daughter and family. I'm a water baby at heart, so you'll often find me out on our family boat - sailing the beautiful waters of the Mornington Peninsula (where I live!).

While In Broome

Pearl Industry: Broome has a significant historical connection with the pearl industry. Pearling has been a major economic activity in the town since the late 1800s when Japanese, Malay, Chinese, and Indigenous divers harvested pearls from the surrounding waters. Today, Broome pearls are still highly regarded and sought after worldwide.

Cable Beach: One of the most famous attractions in Broome is Cable Beach, a stunning 22-kilometre (13.7 miles) stretch of white sandy beach with turquoise waters. It is a popular spot for sunsets, camel rides, and water activities.

Staircase to the Moon: Broome is also known for a natural phenomenon called the "Staircase to the Moon," which occurs during certain times of the year. It happens when the full moon rises over the exposed tidal flats of Roebuck Bay, creating an optical illusion of a staircase leading to the moon.

Indigenous Culture: The Kimberley region, including Broome, is home to various Indigenous Australian communities. Visitors have the opportunity to learn about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Yawuru, Nyul Nyul, Bardi Jawi, and other local Indigenous groups.

Horizontal Waterfalls: One of the unique natural wonders near Broome is the Horizontal Waterfalls in Talbot Bay. These are a pair of stunning tidal waterfalls created by the rapid tidal movements in the region. Visitors can take boat tours to witness this breathtaking phenomenon.

Broome Historical Museum: For those interested in the town's history, the Broome Historical Museum offers insights into Broome's pearling past and the region's diverse heritage.

Broome Bird Observatory: Birdwatchers will appreciate the Broome Bird Observatory, which offers opportunities to observe a wide variety of migratory birds that flock to the area during certain times of the year.
