Tiwi Islands GP AMS Locum Opportunity - Dec 2024 to March 2025

Escape the everyday and experience the unforgettable on the stunning Tiwi Islands, known as the ‘Island of Smiles.’ Prescript Recruitment is offering a unique locum opportunity for GPs to work with the Julanimawu community, located just 70km northeast of Darwin. Soak in the rich Aboriginal culture, scenic coastal landscapes, and rewarding healthcare work, all while making a real difference in remote health.

The Position

Based at the Julanimawu Health Centre, you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering essential primary healthcare to the local community and surrounding outstations. This is a Monday-to-Friday role with no emergency or weekend work, providing an excellent work-life balance. With support from PHC nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, and the Darwin-based DMO Service, you'll focus solely on primary care, allowing you to truly connect with the community.

  • 09/12/2024 – 17/01/2025

  • 03/01/2025 – 28/03/2025

  • We’re looking for a minimum commitment of 3 weeks to ensure you get the full experience. Extensions are available.

Collaborating with local communities, the corporation embodies a holistic approach to medical care. Familiarity with CommuniCare services is advantageous but not essential. Clinic hours run Monday to Friday from 0800 to 1700.

The Position

On-call responsibilities are shared,  allowing you to explore your surrounds 5 evenings out of 7 and 3 out of 4 of your weekends.  Your work will be split between the local district hospital and multi-purpose centre with support from experienced nursing, community,  mental and allied health teams.

Tiwi Islands GP Locum - Spectacular Location - Urgent November Dates

Are you a GP looking to venture into the NT for a unique and urgent locum from 06 November until 17 November 2023?

We have an exciting role for a GP based in the community of Milikapiti and Julanimawu (Tiwi Islands) in the Arafura Sea, approximately 70km northeast of Darwin. 

Melville and Bathurst Islands are collectively known as the Tiwi Islands, the home of the Tiwi people. The Tiwi People have occupied the islands since at least the last ice age when the islands were separated from the mainland, approximately 11,000 years ago.

The Position

This position will be based in both Milikapiti & Julanimawu Health Centres.

Work is undertaken in a multi-disciplinary team delivering clinical and public health services to the residents of the Milikapiti & Julanimawu community and surrounding outstations.

Clinical support is provided by the DMO Service and medical retrievals. Royal Darwin Hospital is the regional hospital and provides tertiary care.

  • This is a 1-GP post

  • Monday-Friday only

  • No weekends or public holidays

  • No emergency medicine requirements – primary health care only

  • PHC Nurses & Aboriginal Health practitioners are the first respondents on-call
