ED SMO Locum – High-Impact Opportunity in Regional NSW

Make Your Next Locum Count

At Prescript Recruitment, we specialise in placing doctors into roles that truly matter — roles where your skills directly improve access to healthcare in regional Australia. Right now, we’re looking for an experienced Emergency Senior Medical Officer (SMO) to cover locum shifts at a modern, well-equipped regional hospital in Central West NSW.

With strong rates, full travel and accommodation covered, and flexible shift options, this is a perfect opportunity to grow your leadership skills, enjoy a change of scene, and make a meaningful contribution to a regional community.

The Position

As the sole doctor on shift, you will lead emergency care in a hospital that sees approximately 10,000 presentations each year. The emergency department is supported by a range of acute care services, including general medical, surgical, obstetric and high-dependency beds.

Your responsibilities will cover everything from initial patient assessment through to trauma response, rapid reviews, and coordinating follow-up care. Documentation will be completed in eMR, and you’ll work closely with the nursing and wider clinical teams to ensure safe, seamless care across the hospital.

This is an ideal opportunity for confident ED doctors who thrive on independence and leadership in regional medicine.

Dates Available

There are multiple shifts on offer between March and June 2025, including:

  • Mornings (07:30 – 16:00)

  • Afternoons (14:00 – 22:30)

  • Nights (22:00 – 08:00)

Rates range from $1,840 to $2,300 per shift, depending on shift type and your experience. You can choose individual shifts or block dates together for a longer stay. A full list of dates is available on enquiry.

What We Provide

With Prescript, you can expect more than just a job placement — you get a seamless, fully supported locum experience from start to finish.

  • Strong earning potential, with rates up to $2,300 per shift.

  • Full travel and accommodation support, including flights, car hire and comfortable accommodation.

  • Flexible scheduling, so you can work around your commitments.

  • Dedicated support, with your own Recruitment Partner and Credentialing Team ensuring every detail is handled.

About the Location

The hospital is located around four hours west of Sydney, offering a classic regional NSW experience. You can either drive or fly into a nearby regional airport, with car hire arranged for the final leg.

When you’re off duty, the area offers plenty to explore — from award-winning wineries and heritage sites to scenic countryside perfect for unwinding between shifts.

Want to know the exact location? Enquire to find out.

What We’re Looking For

  • ED SMO or PGY7+ with at least 3 years of ED CMO experience in Australia

  • Current ALS2 certification

  • Availability for at least some of the listed shifts — with the option to work more if desired.
