The Position

  • Role: Rural Generalist or Emergency Medicine SMO
  • Scope: Emergency and ward coverage
  • Roster: Flexible within the contract dates
  • Caseload: Low complexity, low pressure
  • Support: Experienced nursing and admin team
  • Overtime: Paid for any hours worked beyond 12 in a single shift

The Position

  • 23-bed Level 3 CSCF facility with ED and non-birthing inpatient services
  • ED sees mostly Category 3–4 cases with 60–70% bed occupancy
  • Work with other SMOs, an intern, and an experienced allied health team
  • Access to x-ray, pharmacy, physio, speech, OT, social work, and community nursing
  • On-call 1:2 or 1:3; night shifts are on-call only (no on-site overnight)
  • AST in Emergency, Remote, or Internal Medicine highly regarded

The Position

We’re recruiting experienced ED doctors (PGY6+ SMOs and FACEMs) to join the Emergency Department at Mackay Base Hospital — a major referral hospital for the region, and one of Queensland’s best-equipped digital facilities.

This is a Level 4 ED that sees over 150 presentations per day, across both adult and paediatric populations. With two resus bays, HDU, short-stay, and fast-track areas, you’ll be part of a well-structured and well-resourced service. Shifts run from 0700–1700 or 1200–2200 with occasional on-call — choose the blocks that suit your lifestyle.

    • 24/7 ED plus inpatient, maternity, surgical, and outpatient services

    • Purpose-built spaces for resus, mental health, paediatrics, procedures, and consults

    • Clear shift structures: day, evening, and overnight coverage (IC and non-IC)

  • 16 beds plus 4 short-stay bays

  • 2 resus bays and a mental health safe room

  • On-site helipad for emergency retrieval

  • CT scanner and digital imaging

  • Telehealth capability to support regional care
