The Position

As the sole doctor on shift, you will lead emergency care in a hospital that sees approximately 10,000 presentations each year. The emergency department is supported by a range of acute care services, including general medical, surgical, obstetric and high-dependency beds.

Your responsibilities will cover everything from initial patient assessment through to trauma response, rapid reviews, and coordinating follow-up care. Documentation will be completed in eMR, and you’ll work closely with the nursing and wider clinical teams to ensure safe, seamless care across the hospital.

This is an ideal opportunity for confident ED doctors who thrive on independence and leadership in regional medicine.

Dates Available

There are multiple shifts on offer between March and June 2025, including:

• Mornings (07:30 – 16:00)

• Afternoons (14:00 – 22:30)

• Nights (22:00 – 08:00)

Rates range from $1,840 to $2,300 per shift, depending on shift type and your experience. You can choose individual shifts or block dates together for a longer stay. A full list of dates is available on enquiry.

Prescript Recruitment is seeking passionate ED SMOs, Rural Generalists, and FACEMs to join the team at the Mackay Base Hospital. With natural beauty from the rainforest to the reef, incredible inland escapes, and unique wildlife experiences, this is more than a job—it's a lifestyle!

The Position

We’re calling on experienced ED SMOs, Rural Generalists (FRACGP or FACRRM), and FACEMs to step into a role where every day brings new challenges and rewards. Work alongside a dedicated team at Mackay Base Hospital, providing vital medical care to the community. Shifts are available from September 2024 onward, and we are looking for doctors who can commit to a minimum of 7 days.

About Mackay Base Hospital:
With a network of 8 hospitals and four community health facilities, Mackay Base Hospital serves as a pivotal healthcare provider in the region. It serves a population of approximately 180,000 people across regional, community, and rural settings. The emergency department alone handles over 99,000 patient visits annually, ensuring a fast-paced and dynamic working environment.

As a teaching hospital affiliated with James Cook University (JCU), Mackay Base Hospital fosters an environment of continuous learning and professional growth. It is accredited for training with both the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) and the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), making it an ideal place for doctors looking to advance their careers.

What We Require From You

✓ ED SMOs: Extensive Emergency Department experience with ALS2 certification.

✓ Rural Generalists: FRACGP or FACRRM accreditation.
